Numbers 31:25-30 New International Version (NIV)
Dividing the Spoils
25 The Lord said to Moses, 26 “You and Eleazar the priest and the family heads of the community are to count all the people and animals that were captured. 27 Divide the spoils equally between the soldiers who took part in the battle and the rest of the community. 28 From the soldiers who fought in the battle, set apart as tribute for the Lord one out of every five hundred, whether people, cattle, donkeys or sheep. 29 Take this tribute from their half share and give it to Eleazar the priest as the Lord’s part. 30 From the Israelites’ half, select one out of every fifty, whether people, cattle, donkeys, sheep or other animals. Give them to the Levites, who are responsible for the care of the Lord’s tabernacle.”
Moses told the Israelites to give a portion of the war plunder to God. Then, another portion was to go to the people who remained behind. Do you know that everything that you have comes directly or indirectly from God? Did you know that ultimately everything really does belong to God? Do you share a portion with God and share a portion with those in need? Take time to think about how you share what you have been given. Then, set up a plan for sharing with God and others. Set up your tithe and organize to give to those in need. For example, tithe 10% to God. Next, where is your heart when it come to helping others. You can do acts of kindness, pay for another’s meal, pay for groceries, pay for another’s coffee, and you can give to a charity. You can give your time. You can do an act of service. Take time to think about how you share what has been given to you.
