Deuteronomy 1:9-13 New International Version (NIV)
The Appointment of Leaders
9 At that time I said to you, “You are too heavy a burden for me to carry alone. 10 The Lord your God has increased your numbers so that today you are as numerous as the stars in the sky. 11 May the Lord, the God of your ancestors, increase you a thousand times and bless you as he has promised! 12 But how can I bear your problems and your burdens and your disputes all by myself? 13 Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you.”
Moses had a tremendous burden of leading a nation by himself. This was a task that could not be accomplished alone. Conflicts happen. Quarrels arise. One leader cannot make all the decisions. Do you have a natural tendency to want to do everything by yourself or to do all the work? Are you afraid or embarrassed to ask for help? Make a wise decision like Moses and share the load with others. Let others handle larger responsibilities and look for ways of sharing the load. This helps others exercise their God given gifts and abilities along side you.
