3 Now Elimelek, Naomi’s husband, died, and she was left with her two sons. 4 They married Moabite women, one named Orpah and the other Ruth. After they had lived there about ten years, 5 both Mahlon and Kilion also died, and Naomi was left without her two sons and her husband.
As God’s chosen people, the Israelites should have set high standards of moral living. They did not. It was Ruth, a Moabite, who was used by God as an example of pure and genuine spiritual character. What standard are you living by? Are you living by the worldly standard? Take a step back and look at your spiritual character and your personal character. Be objective and honest with yourself and God, and if you need to make some changes, do it. It is never too late, and you are never too far gone to move toward God’s standard of living. When you do that, you will enjoy peace and joy in your life. Walking with God through life is so much better than trudging through life with the world view.
