Following Jesus is a daily and intentional commitment to walk in His footsteps, prioritizing His teachings over selfish desires. It is a relationship, not just rules, characterized by faith, obedience, loving God with all your heart, and serving others through self-denial and unconditional love.

What to Do:
  • Have a continuous relationship: Following Jesus is a “present imperative,” meaning a daily, active commitment to walk in His path rather than your own.
  • Put Kingdom building first: It involves denying self-centered desires, taking up your cross, and placing obedience over convenience.
  • Obey out of Love: True following is not just believing in Jesus, but obeying His commandments and living out His teachings in daily life.
  • Community and Service: Following Jesus means joining the community of the church and serving “the least, the lost, and the lonely,” becoming His hands and feet in a broken world.
  • Transformation: As you follow Him, the Holy Spirit transforms you to reflect His character—growing in love, kindness, and faithfulness.

A Simple Prayer for Following Jesus:

Heavenly Father, I give my life to Jesus. Save me, forgive my sins, and fill me with your Spirit. I want to know you, follow you, and be a light in the world. Lead me to show your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
