Genesis 18:15 New International Version (NIV)
15 Sarah was afraid, so she lied and said, “I did not laugh.”
But he said, “Yes, you did laugh.”
Sarah lied. She was afraid. Fear can be a very forceful feeling and can create a path for lying. Fear is very real. Fear keeps us from revealing or facing our inner thoughts and emotions. Fear keeps us from admitting a wrong because we may not want to be discovered. We do not think that the lie will hurt, but lying causes greater complications. Telling the truth is the better choice. When you tell the truth right from the start will stop greater problems later. If you did lie, come clean as soon as you can. Admit your lie, apologize, and work through the consequences and the restitution. In the end, telling the truth no matter how scared you may be, is the better choice.
