Galatians 5:17 “…For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the [Holy] Spirit, and the [desires of the] Spirit are opposed to the flesh (godless human nature); for these are antagonistic to each other [continually withstanding and in conflict with each other], so that you are not free but are prevented from doing what you desire to do…”
How often do we feel this way? We desire to do what we know is right, but so often fail to do so. There is a war inside between the flesh and the Spirit. We will always have this problem as long as we are living in this flesh of ours.
The more we listen to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to guide us, what the flesh desires decreases more and more, because our hearts desire is for what the Spirit wants. The longing to please God can over-ride the desire of the flesh. Things that we found hard to overcome in the beginning days of our walk are no longer an issue years down the track. We no longer desire those things. But it doesn’t stop there. God is continually at work in us and He brings things to the surface that need changing.
It’s hard to do what’s right in the Lord for the Spirit & flesh are constantly at war.
