Deuteronomy 1:17 “Do not be afraid of anyone, for judgment belongs to God.”
There is an importance of not being afraid of criticism in the pursuit of truth. In Moses’ instructions to the judges that he appointed to help lead the nation, he said, “Do not be afraid of anyone, for judgment belongs to God.” The opinions of others should be of no consequence when we are determining what is true and right in the eyes of God. Moses was warning the judges against altering their judgment out of fear of getting on the wrong side of powerful and influential people in the community. This in not just a lesson for leaders. We have all been in situations where we allow our judgment of what is right to be clouded by the opinions of others, fearing the reaction of those around us. Remember that “judgment belongs to God,” so “do not be afraid of anyone.” When have you taken an unpopular position due to the strength of your convictions? How did others react? How did you react? How can knowing that “judgment belongs to God” help you in current and future convictions?
