Psalm 119:37 Turn my eyes away from vanity [all those worldly, meaningless things that distract—let Your priorities be mine], and restore me [with renewed energy] in Your ways.
We must turn our eyes away from those things that only have worldly significance—things that are only of worldly value, or are worthless, meaningless, and which only distract us. It’s all vanity! It focuses on the flesh with its desires and wants. Our priorities should be God’s priorities. Our eyes must be fixed on Jesus, our minds and hearts set on Him, especially in these times in which we are living. The world is not stable, and the affect that this has on our health, jobs, businesses and even our relationships can leave us feeling unsure of our future. Nothing that the world offers is certain because circumstances can change so very quickly. The only sure thing is God. He is unchanging; He is our rock and the One who sustains us. He is fully trustworthy! So, our eyes need to be continually looking to Him. We need to let everything else that does not have eternal value just simply fall away.
Remember, God’s priority is for the world to hear the gospel and come to know Him as Lord and Savior. We need to commit ourselves wholly to Jesus as we walk through the uncertainty, and as we do this, He restores us with ‘renewed energy’. He strengthens us to walk uprightly in His ways. He restores, refreshes and energizers us to stand in the midst of the current crises and the surrounding darkness, loss and despair. He is our hope and the hope of the world. We need God’s help to share this hope with others.
So, keep your eyes on Him, allow the worldly distractions to fall away, be that light of hope to others and walk energized in the Lord.
