Scripture:
Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Colossians 3:13
Lesson:
When we complete a moral inventory of all the good and bad things we have done and that have been done to us, we begin to see the TRUTH about ourselves. This will help us keep finding freedom from our hurts, hang-ups, and habits.
T-Take action on any unresolved relational issues from our inventory or on any new issues that have begun
Are there any issues that haven’t been resolved? Is there anyone you haven’t made amends to or offered forgiveness to? Make a plan on how you will resolve these issues or relationships.
R-Recognize patterns and behaviors
One way the truth sets us free is by showing us patterns that we may be able to ignore until we see them written.
U-Understand that the events in our past shaped us, but they don’t define us
Sponsors need to be transparent. We are all works in progress!
T-Turn our character defects to Jesus
To find complete freedom, we need to turn ALL our hurts, habits, and hang-ups over to Jesus.
H-Help others along the way
Helping others takes the focus off ourselves and keeps Jesus at the center. When we help other people, we are directly serving Christ.
Application:
The enemy tells us that we can ignore our hurts, habits, and hang-ups and everything will be ok. It even tries to get us to believe the lie that we can find peace, joy, and happiness living in our hurts, habits, and hang-ups. But that is a bald-faced lie. True peace, joy, and happiness can only be found through Jesus Christ. He truly is the way, the truth, and the life.Following Christ requires intentional effort—much like the dedication needed for physical growth—and staying focused on this daily practice helps us reflect Him more clearly.
