7 Get rid of the old yeast, so that you may be a new unleavened batch—as you really are. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed.
This time of year everything is on clearance. We have out with old man winter and on to spring. The warmer weather we are having sure might make us think that spring is around the corner, but we have had some of the most incredible snow storms in March and the first part of April.
Clearance prices entice us to think that we can use an item. Stores are convincing us to buy something. They are trying to get rid of something to bring in something new.
In this portion of scripture, Paul is telling us that yeast is a picture of sin. It is small, but it is very powerful. Sin, like yeast in breads, puffs up and spreads. This is great imagery of what sin does to us. Let’s put our sins on clearance. Out with the old and put on the new self. That will be a good buy.
