Judges 6:12 New International Version (NIV)
12 When the angel of the Lord appeared to Gideon, he said, “The Lord is with you, mighty warrior.”
The Angel of the Lord calls out to Gideon that he is a mighty warrior. This is how God sees him. Yet, in verse 12, Gideon’s response is, ‘If you are with us, why has all this happened to us.’
I find it interesting that Gideon asks the question, “Why?” It is apparent to us why because they did evil in the eyes of the Lord. Again, Israel was not following the Word of God, and they fell back into idol worship. They brought on their own consequences.
It is easy for us to see in their lives, but how about our own lives? When we go back to our sinful ways and fall back into idol worship, we lose God’s presence in our own lives. We lose identity in Christ.
Much like Gideon, we need to hear those words that we are mighty warriors for God. The enemy is always there to remind us of how we fall short. Our mistakes are too big.
When I feel most discouraged, I remind myself of 2 Corinthians 6:18, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” I am the son of the Living God, and he calls me like he did Gideon, A Mighty Warrior.
