29 They named it Dan after their ancestor Dan, who was born to Israel—though the city used to be called Laish. 30 There the Danites set up for themselves the idol, and Jonathan son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests for the tribe of Dan until the time of the captivity of the land. 31 They continued to use the idol Micah had made, all the time the house of God was in Shiloh.
The Danites may have thought they were worshiping God through these images. Worshiping images is not worshiping God. Today, many people make the same mistake. They claim to be Christians without really believing in God’s power. They do not change their conduct to conform to God’s expectations. There cannot be a claim to follow God without there being a reality of change in our motives and actions. The values, actions, and practices you have adopted from the world’s system can be exposed by applying the light of God’s truth to them. See them for what they are, and you can begin to regard God.
