Over the past few weeks, as the weather turned really cold, I noticed one of my teeth seemed to be more cold sensitive when i had been outside. This turned into a pain flare up anytime I ate something even a little bit hot or cold and became fairly predictable and frustrating, as there wasn’t much I could do to prevent it except eat and drink things as close to 98 degrees as possible. I saw my dentist a week ago and he seemed to think it could get better or worse as well. So, this past week, I have been trying not to aggravate it, and even asked for prayer from a friend and my 8 year old son one night as well. I don’t generally pray for my teeth, as I have always had issues with them, but the past two days, things have been much better and I have not had any pain as has been the past few weeks, Praise God! Now I also have not tested this fully by eating ice cream or scalding coffee, but meals have been pleasant again. Is there anything that you think is too insignificant or petty to pray for?
What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! Luke 11:11-13
With the recent turn of events, I have been cautiously optimistic, as with any health issue, things can change. I have to ask myself, even if things had not improved, or if the pain returns, is God still good? And the answer to that is of course, yes He is. But regardless of the ultimate outcome, I have been humbled, encouraged, and been very thankful for much over the past couple days. I have also discovered that I often pay God lipservice through routines of prayer and praise, but I don’t experience the depths of need and gratitude as when things are out of my control with things as simple as pain, and as complex as relationships and many other things in this life. Let us remember to take all our concerns to our Lord, as He does care for us and there is nothing to small or to big that He can address.
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7
