We tend to overcomplicate things at times, or at least I seem to. For me, I often seem to want to do too much in a given amount of time than is reasonable. It does motivate me to be more efficient with my time, get things done, but it also adds a bit more stress at times as well. It is often a challenge between two competing things which are 1- What do I want to do, and 2- What do I need to do. Sometimes these things line up, but sometimes they do not, as often what I want to do is not always what I need to do. We all need to prioritize our time and get done what is necessary for our families, our jobs, etc, and if there is time, and even if there isn’t, we should set aside time to do things we enjoy as well. When one of these things takes over, life gets out of balance and so do we. When all I do is work for long periods, I need to take some breaks from that. When I am on vacation or seem to be unproductive at home, I have the urge to get back to getting things done after a while. How can you tell if your life is out of balance?
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
There is a song that our kids sing that goes “Read your Bible, Pray every day, and you will grow, grow, grow.” Its simple, but its true. If you want to grow spiritually, these are some of the basics in doing that. I would add one more component, and that is to be in community with at least a couple others who you can share with openly and freely. Others who will encourage you in your spiritual life and keep you in check to hold you accountable in life as well. Someone who you can pray with when you need. Do you have someone like this in your life?
Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Romans 12:12
Even when things are not going how you planned, may you keep your life in balance by doing the things that you need to do and help. May you find time to be in the Word every day, and pray as you go through the day as well. I find the more I do this, the better I deal with things and people when they challenge me. The fruit of the spirit should be more evident in your life as well.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. Philippians 4:6
Yours in Christ,
