Lesson:
Once we admit that by ourselves we are powerless, we can stop living with the following “peace robbers” in the acrostic for POWERLESS.
P: Pride
Ignorance + power + pride = a deadly mixture
O: Only Ifs
Our “only ifs” in life keep us trapped in the fantasyland of rationalization!
W: Worry
Worry steals our peace and doesn’t fix our problems.
E: Escape
When we live in denial, we escape into a world of fantasy and unrealistic expectations of ourselves and others.
R: Resentments
Resentments can become like an emotional cancer if we allow them to fester and grow.
L: Loneliness
In Christ and in your recovery journey, you never have to walk alone.
E: Emptiness
When you feel empty inside, you start feeling hopeless.
S: Selfishness
When we pray, we often ask God to give me, give me, give me.
S: Separation
Some people talk about finding God, as if He could ever get lost!
Life Application:
Powerlessness is the beginning of surrender. We reach for control when we’re afraid, but peace comes when we admit the truth that I can’t, but God can. This week, let go of one burden you’ve been trying to carry alone and place it in God’s hands. Pray through the fear, release the outcome, and take one small step of obedience. True freedom starts where our own strength stops!
