With all the rain over the past month, you may appreciate the sunny weather just a little more now than you used to. When we are in a drought, the opposite is often true. Are we ever satisfied? How is your favorite sports team doing this year? When a team is doing well, they seem to gather a lot more fans in addition to the die hard loyals who show up rain or shine. When it comes to sports, I would probably be considered a fair weather fan, as I don’t normally attend or even watch many teams on a regular basis. What determines whether you are ‘on-board’ or not with a sports team, a political party, a school board or city council, etc? If they serve your own self-interests you may give them a thumbs up, otherwise not. Can you still advocate for someone or an organization that you don’t agree with on some topics?
He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. Matthew 5:45
Are you a fair weather fan when it comes to God? When things are going the way you like and road bumps are few and far between, is it easier to say that God is good? Do you only turn to Him or pray earnestly when you hit a wall or your life starts falling apart? Take a close look at your life over the past 5-15 years or more and see how you have responded to God and others when things didn’t go your way. Did your attitude and actions change much over that time? Does your love for God and others change like the weather? Give credit where credit is due. Praise Him in the sun and the rain, through the good and bad, so that others will know you are a true follower and not just a fair weather fan.
Yours in Christ,
Clark
