Luke 14:21 NIV: Then the owner of the house became angry and ordered his servant, “Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor, the crippled, the blind and the lame.”
Jesus tells the parable of the Great Feast in Luke 14:15-24. He shares that the banquet table is open for EVERYONE. So countercultural to our understanding in today’s world of gaining a seat at the table where the seat is tied to status, prestige, accomplishment.
God sent His Son to the whole world of needy people to tell them that God’s kingdom has arrived and was ready for them. We are all needy. We all need a Savior. We all have an opportunity to have a seat at the banquet table of the Great Feast.
Zach Williams lyrics in his song “Jesus Loves” capture this message:
“So come on in, the door is open and the Savior’s arms are too. The table’s set, a seat is waiting and He saved it just for you. So no more running, no more hiding. Come on in and you will find you don’t have to be enough to someone Jesus loves.”
Amen! Thank you, Jesus, for Your love and the redemption You have provided all of us.
I have learned so much from my friend Quincy about loving others and offering them a seat at the banquet table … even when it is uncomfortable. I’ve witnessed him showing support to the homeless, the condemned, the felons, the forgottens.
How about us? Are we responding to the Holy Spirit’s prompts to love on others, to support them, to walk with them in the journey of life, to welcome them into God’s family?
