This past week, I got a new phone working phone. My previous cell phone had intermittent cellular service, which would occasionally connect, maybe once per day. I could call when I had wifi service, so I called it my mobile land line. I grew up with just a land line at home, and was reminded of what that was like this past year. The only issue was when my wife needed to get in touch with me while working, or replying to people quickly. Fortunately, I never got in a situation where I needed to call for help. On the upside, I learned to be more patient and maybe even less addicted to a cell phone. Once I got back to reliable service, i have been excited to be able to call or look up info when traveling, like I got a new toy or something. If you had to go back to using a land line, how would your life be different?
But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 1 Peter 2:9
I had a conversation yesterday with a friend from college that I had not talked to in quite a while. It was good to catch up and there are ways to talk to people, even face to face by Facetime, Zoom, and Messenger, to remind us that technology is better than that of the Jetsons now, even though flying cars are a bit more limited. The means to communicate with people is at a level, where it is possible even for some with limited skills to let you know what they want. My oldest son is non-verbal, but does have a communication device where he can let us know what he wants, or how he feels if he is willing to share. I also have some friends who choose to limit their interaction on social media to decrease the control that has in their lives. Are you more or less apt to connect with people in an age where connecting with some is easier than ever?
I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, Ephesians 4:1
I also recently shared some teachings about Jesus that are posted on a YouTube video with a friend who lives in another country. Its almost like sharing the name of a good book that you refer to someone. I have several versions of the bible on my phone and can even listen to it when traveling if I like. I do these things occasionally, but not likely much more than when I didn’t have the internet as prolific as it is now. Does our ability to communicate influence how well or often we talk to God? In fact, social media, and the easy access of information may keep us from communicating with Him at times. So turning those things off, getting in the Word and spending time in Prayer may help our communication in some situations. May you find the time to connect with those who matter to you on a regular basis.
And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Mark 16:15
