15 Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, 16 the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.
Has God ever done something in your life that you thought to be impossible? Were the odds stacked against you? Did you see no hope? The Israelites crossed the Jordan River in the spring during flood season. Why did God choose this time? The river was at its highest point. He chose this time to demonstrate his power to the Israelites. This reaffirms who he is to his people. God showed his power by working a miracle of timing and location. His people crossed the river on dry ground. This was a testimony of God’s great power. This built the hope of the Israelites. It also gave them a great reputation to their enemies, and struck fear in their enemies. You are one of God’s people. He will do great things in your life. He will give you hope. Ask for help when you see the odds stacked against you, and look for God’s helping hand.
