Exodus 21:24-25 New International Version (NIV)
24 eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, 25 burn for burn, wound for wound, bruise for bruise.
This was put forth as a guide for the judges. This is not a rule for personal relationships. This also does not justify revenge. This states that the punishment must fit the crime. This was to prevent cruel and inhumane punishments that many ancient countries did to people. Jesus taught that we are not to retaliate. People in leadership roles need to make wise decisions for discipline to be effective. Ask God for wisdom before you judge.
