Leviticus 5:4 New International Version (NIV)
4 or if anyone thoughtlessly takes an oath to do anything, whether good or evil (in any matter one might carelessly swear about) even though they are unaware of it, but then they learn of it and realize their guilt—
Have you ever sworn not to do something, and then realized you promised something that was very difficult to keep? God’s people are called to keep their word even if the promise is a tough one to keep. Jesus warned against swearing. He said a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ was best. He said anything beyond that was from the evil one. Your word should be enough. You do not have to swear. If you feel you have to strengthen your answer beyond a ‘yes’ or a ‘no’, then something is wrong. Be a wise and self-controlled person who avoids rash promises.
