Genesis 31:1-2 New International Version (NIV)
Jacob Flees From Laban
31 Jacob heard that Laban’s sons were saying, “Jacob has taken everything our father owned and has gained all this wealth from what belonged to our father.”2 And Jacob noticed that Laban’s attitude toward him was not what it had been.
Jacob’s wealth made Laban’s sons jealous. It may be difficult to be happy when others are doing better that you are. You may compare your success with that of others. That is a dangerous way to judge the quality of your life. If you compare your life to others, that will give jealousy a foothold. Avoid comparing. Rejoice in others’ success. When you stay clear of comparing, jealousy and ill feelings will not impede your joy in life.
