Genuine Praise

by | Oct 22, 2021 | Vital Life Application Devotions

25 For great is the Lord and most worthy of praise;
    he is to be feared above all gods.
26 For all the gods of the nations are idols,
    but the Lord made the heavens.
27 Splendor and majesty are before him;
    strength and joy are in his dwelling place.

28 Ascribe to the Lord, all you families of nations,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
29 Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    bring an offering and come before him.
Worship the Lord in the splendor of his holiness.
30     Tremble before him, all the earth!
    The world is firmly established; it cannot be moved.

Genuine praise results when you declare God’s character and attributes in the presence of others. When you recognize and affirm his goodness, you are holding up his perfect moral nature for all to see. Praise benefits you because you are focussing on God. It takes your mind off your problems and needs and focusses on God’s power, mercy, majesty, and love. You can even recognize and affirm God alone when you are talking with him. Saying affirmations out loud to God edifies you and affirms who God is. God loves to hear you affirm him because he knows that when you do that, you are affirming him in you. You belong to him and he belongs to you.

When you pray, which is talking with God, affirm him. Follow Jesus’ example: My Father, who is in Heaven, Hallowed by Thy Name = God is Holy, Holy, Holy. You are affirming God in his Holiness, Grace, Mercy, and Majesty. Thy Kingdom come Thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven = God’s will will be done. He is in control. You are affirming that God is in control. Give me this day my daily bread = You are asking for your needs of the day to be met. Forgive me for my sins, as I will forgive those who sin against me. = You will forgive others who wrong you, and God will forgive you when you do wrong. Lead me not into temptation. = You will keep yourself out of temptations that will lead you to do wrong. This is your responsibility to recognize your sin triggers and keep away from them. God will help you with this, and he will help you get stronger against the sin triggers. Deliver me from evil. = You are asking God to protect you from evil. Amen means it is true, so be it, and it is fact. Saying Amen at the end of your prayer means you believe what you prayed to already be in motion and fact in your life. It is true. Always remember to pray God’s will. He will never answer prayer that goes against his will and nature. Get to know God, and you will get to know his will in your life.
