Deuteronomy 17:1
New International Version
17 Do not sacrifice to the Lord your God an ox or a sheep that has any defect or flaw in it, for that would be detestable to him.
This command indicates that some Israelites were sacrificing imperfect or deformed animals to God. It can be difficult and expensive to offer God our best or the first part of what we earn. It can be tempting to shortchange God. Your giving shows where your real priorities are. Giving God your leftovers shows that you are putting yourself and things first. Is God the center of your life? Give God the honor of having first claim on your money, time, and talents.
