Bringing Back the Ark
13 David conferred with each of his officers, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds. 2 He then said to the whole assembly of Israel, “If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the Lord our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our people throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, to come and join us. 3 Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul.”
The Ark of God is also called the Ark of the Covenant. This is the most sacred object of the Hebrew faith which contained the stone tablets God had written the Ten Commandments. The Ark was taken to Jerusalem to make it the nation’s center of worship. The Ark had been neglected, and this showed Israel’s neglect of putting God first. David wanted to remind the nation that their true foundation was God, and the Ark was a reminder for the nation to consult God first in life. Today we have our Bible, God’s Word. Where are you today in your faith journey? Are you neglecting your relationship with God or putting it on the back burner to do other things? Are you too busy to include God into your daily life? What can you do to make a small change to bring God back to the forefront? As you make small changes to put God first, you will reap tremendous rewards in your faith.
