6 Then Joshua tore his clothes and fell facedown to the ground before the ark of the Lord, remaining there till evening. The elders of Israel did the same, and sprinkled dust on their heads.
Joshua and the leaders tore their clothing and threw dust on their heads as signs of deep mourning before God. There was confusion. Why had they lost the battle at the small city of Ai. They had just had a spectacular victory at Jericho. They went before God in humility for instructions. Is your life in confusion? Are things falling apart? Go before God in humility and find direction. He will help you. When you humble yourself, you will be able to hear God.
