Men – I encourage you to take some time in this next week to dig into Jehoshaphat’s situation in 2 Chronicles 20. This story came to life for me recently when I engaged with a Bible App devotional about Jehoshaphat’s story with some friends. I’m gonna break down some of the highlights from Chapter 20.
Verses 3-12: King Jehoshaphat was alarmed that THREE nations were converging for war with Judah. He realized this fight was beyond his control. His prayer shows he is ALL IN with trusting God to take over the situation. Jehoshaphat reflected on who God is and the work God had done behalf of the Israelites. He affirmed God’s past promises and humbly asked for God’s help. Finally, he fixed his eyes on God and waited for God’s answer.
Verses 15-17: God answers directly by saying, “Don’t be afraid or discouraged. The battle is not yours, but God’s. Tomorrow march against them, but you will NOT have to fight this battle. Face them; God will be with you.”
Verses 18-30: Jehoshaphat, the priests and the people of Judah fully engage in worship. The soldiers of Judah do go out the next day to meet their enemies. Unbelievable … God causes the enemies to kill each other. How can you explain this?! God is amazing!
Application for us … we have the opportunity to dialogue with God and worship Him in ALL situations that challenge us. God WILL order and direct our days. He will bring us through.
Strength and courage, brothers!
