John 8:32 And you will know the Truth, and the Truth will set you free.
In v.31, Jesus said, “If you abide in my Word [hold fast to my teachings and live in accordance with them], you are truly my disciples”. In order to “know the truth”, we must abide in God’s Word, hold fast to His teachings and live our lives in accordance with them. We need to align our thoughts, words and actions to God’s Word, conforming to His standards and His truth. As we do this, we will “know” His truth—we will come to believe what He says about Himself and what He says about us. This is what sets us free! His truth sets us free as we know it, believe it and live it!
The truths in God’s Word will always set us free from the lies of our enemy, but we have to know His truth and know what He promises us. We need to intentionally declare it over our lives and apply it—this is when it has tremendous effect and dynamic power. God’s truth can, and will, break the chains of bondage that has gripped our souls for so long. It will open the prison doors of our lives that have long shut out God’s light of truth, which frees us to be who God has always intended for us to be.
It’s not about skimming over scripture or quoting some juicy scriptures a few times expecting change automatically and then, when it doesn’t come, give up and declare: “Tried that. Didn’t work!” No. It’s more than this. I really can’t say this enough, we must: meditate, soak, linger, dwell, abide, listen to, and put our roots deep down into the scripture passages we are declaring and praying over. We have to be intentional and be tenacious about knowing God’s Word—then stand firm in it! There’s simply no other way of knowing God’s truth intimately.
Choose to persevere and stand your ground in God’s truth—it will set you free!
