Living Water

by | Jul 14, 2022 | Vital Men Devotions

A week ago, our yard was turning brown and starting to show several cracks in the ground after about a month with not much more than a few sprinkles from time to time.  Without regular rain most of the plants, aside from a few weeds, were starting to go dormant.  We got some decent rain over a couple nights this past week and things have started changing color toward green again.  I didn’t have to water the garden and other plants as often and things seemed more lively again.  On hot days, we encourage our children to pre-hyrdrate before going out to play and to rehydrate often as well, otherwise they don’t last long playing through the day.  I know the feeling after working outdoors as well and feeling refreshed after the first few sips of water when I come back to life.  If its not too obvious, water is necessary for life, and whether in a tropical jungle, on mountain slopes, or a suburban home, we all need it on a regular basis.  When have you been the most thirsty?

Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”   John 4:13-14

We live in places where we can access water.  We bring it with us on long journeys and need it regularly to survive.  When we are physically thirsty, only water satisfies us.  When we are spiritually thirsty, only Christ can satisfy that thirst.  We may try other substitutes, but only the saving grace God offered us through the forgiveness found in Christ can truly satisfy our thirsty souls.  The sensation you feel when filled with the Spirit is very similar to that first drink of water when you have been parched.  May you find that living water today and whenever you need it and be forever satisfied with its source in Christ.

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”  And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment.  Revelation 21:5-6

Yours in Christ,
