1 Lord, do not rebuke me in your anger
or discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have mercy on me, Lord, for I am faint;
heal me, Lord, for my bones are in agony.
3 My soul is in deep anguish.
How long, Lord, how long?
When you have gotten yourself into a predicament as the result of sin, express sorrow over the sin, remain close to God, and freshen your commitment to remain close to God. In this Psalm, David accepted God’s punishment, but he did not want to be punished in anger. He wanted gentle correction. David wanted mercy. God forgives in his kindness to you as a believer and shows mercy. Thank God for his mercy and grace.
