Genesis 17:5 New International Version (NIV)
5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations.
In the Bible, a person’s name is very important. Naming a child was a very big deal. A name would describe a person’s character. God changed Abram’s name to show that Abram was a new person in God. Abram meant exalted father. God changed his name to Abraham which meant father of many. It is from here on in the Bible, that Abram is known as Abraham.
