Ruth 1:20-21
New International Version
20 “Don’t call me Naomi,” she told them. “Call me Mara, because the Almighty has made my life very bitter. 21 I went away full, but the Lord has brought me back empty. Why call me Naomi? The Lord has afflicted me; the Almighty has brought misfortune upon me.”
Naomi experienced extreme hardship. Changing her name expressed her bitterness. Naomi was not rejecting God because of her expression of pain, but she lost sight of the resources she had in her relationship with God. Have you faced bitter times? God welcomes your honest prayers. God will provide you with love, strength, and resources in the relationships with the people in your life. Do not allow bitterness to blind you. There are opportunities for you that God will place in your path.
