Deuteronomy 24:5
New International Version
5 If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married.
Newly married couples were to be together their first year and not be sent to the military or have other duties put upon them. Because a newly married couple had an unproven and new relationship, Having the new couple spend needed time to mature and strengthen before being confronted with many responsibilities was a way to allow the couple to be free to learn about their new marriage. Today, you can protect your marriage from too many outside pressures and distractions. Let your marriage grow strong by protecting your relationship.
