Numbers 14:5-9 New International Version (NIV)
5 Then Moses and Aaron fell facedown in front of the whole Israelite assembly gathered there. 6 Joshua son of Nun and Caleb son of Jephunneh, who were among those who had explored the land, tore their clothes 7 and said to the entire Israelite assembly, “The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good. 8 If the Lord is pleased with us, he will lead us into that land, a land flowing with milk and honey, and will give it to us. 9 Only do not rebel against the Lord. And do not be afraid of the people of the land, because we will devour them. Their protection is gone, but the Lord is with us. Do not be afraid of them.”
The Israelites experienced first hand many great miracles. They were led out of slavery. They were led through the wilderness with a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of smoke by day. They were protected. They were fed manna that showed up each morning on the ground. God fulfilled every promise he made. But when they got to the edge of the Promised Land, the Israelites refused to enter. They could not take the first step of faith. They had lost sight of their trust in God. Why did they do this, especially after all they had experienced with God? They let fear block them. We can do the same thing. We trust God in all the small things in our lives. But, then when a big thing happens and you have to make the first step yourself to step into what God has for you, you freeze. It feels like you are stepping off a cliff into blackness. What will happen? Will you land on your feet or will you fall flat on your face? Do not stop trusting God just as you are about to reach your goal. He brought you this far, and he will not let you down. Continue to trust God by remembering all he has done for you.
