David Saves Keilah
23 When David was told, “Look, the Philistines are fighting against Keilah and are looting the threshing floors,” 2 he inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?”
The Lord answered him, “Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah.”
3 But David’s men said to him, “Here in Judah we are afraid. How much more, then, if we go to Keilah against the Philistine forces!”
4 Once again David inquired of the Lord, and the Lord answered him, “Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.” 5 So David and his men went to Keilah, fought the Philistines and carried off their livestock. He inflicted heavy losses on the Philistines and saved the people of Keilah. 6 (Now Abiathar son of Ahimelek had brought the ephod down with him when he fled to David at Keilah.)
The Philistines were robbing the Keilah’s citizens of all their food supplies. David sought the Lord’s guidance before he took action. He listened to God’s directions. Then, he took care of the situation. Do you take time to speak with God about decisions? Do you try find God’s will after you have gone through with a decision? Work to stay out of a pattern of asking God to undo the results of a hasty decision. Take time to listen to God before you make a decision. Pray about decisions before making them. Look for open doors that God provides and circumstances. Get council through trusted, godly friends and mentors. God speaks through these important people in your life. Listen to God speak to you through his Spirit, the Holy Spirit in your heart. Seeking God’s guidance before taking action is a positive life pattern to hone and refine.
