SPIRITUAL INVENTORY – PART 2

by | Apr 21, 2026 | VITAL Life Devotions

Scripture:
“Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalms 139:23-24

Lesson:
The following list will help us explore the second half of some of the things that can prevent God from working effectively in our lives. Reading through it and searching your heart will help you as you work through your inventory.

Your Mind
Have you guarded your mind in the past? In what ways has your emotional and/or mental health been harmed by others? Have you filled your mind with hurtful and unhealthy movies, television programs, internet sites, magazines, or books? Have you failed to concentrate on the positive truths of the Bible?

Your Body
In what ways in the past have you mistreated your body? In what ways has your body been harmed by others? What past activities or habits caused harm to your physical health?

Your Family
In the past, has anyone in your family mistreated you? Have you mistreated anyone in your family? Who in your family do you have a resentment against? To whom do you owe amends? What is the family secret that you have been denying?

Your Church
Have you been faithful to your church in the past? How have you been hurt by the church? Have you been critical rather than active? In the past, have you discouraged your family’s support of their church? What in your past has kept you inactive in the church?

Life Application:
As you work through this week’s spiritual inventory, remember that this process is not about dwelling on past mistakes or hurts, but about clearing the path for the incredible healing and future God has prepared for you. Take some intentional, quiet time to reflect deeply on these questions and your current priorities, honestly identifying any areas where you might be struggling to put God first. Bringing these reflections to your sponsor can offer a fresh and supportive perspective, helping you recognize patterns or hidden behaviors that you may not see on your own. Embracing this honesty—both with yourself and with others—is a courageous step toward living a more authentic and wholehearted life in Christ.

*Celebrate Recovery meets Tuesday nights at the McVay Family Center in New Sharon. This is a safe place to find honesty, hope, and healing. The meal starts at 6 pm, and a lesson/testimony begins at 6:30 pm. Childcare is provided for kids 12 and under. Hope to see you there!
