Scripture:
“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm, but how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:9-12
Lesson:
Why do I need a sponsor and/or an accountability partner? There are three reasons why having a sponsor and/or an accountability partner is vital:
- Having a sponsor and/or accountability partner is biblical. “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Proverbs 27:17
- Having a sponsor and/or accountability partner is a key part to your recovery and healing journey. *Maintain your relationship with Jesus. *Develop a strong support team so you can maintain an honest view of reality. *Find a recovery or small group and make meetings a priority. *Get involved in service, including serving as a sponsor or accountability partner.
- Having a sponsor and/or accountability partner is the best guard against relapse or going back to old, dysfunctional patterns. *A sponsor and/or accountability partner provides feedback to keep you on track. *He or she can confront you with truth and love without placing shame or guilt.
Life Application:
We weren’t meant to walk this journey alone. A sponsor or accountability partner provides guidance, encouragement, and honest feedback when we can’t see our blind spots. They help us stay on track, make wise choices, and take steps we might avoid on our own. This week, consider reaching out to a trusted woman in your group-someone who can listen without judgment and pray with you. Growth happens faster, and healing runs deeper when we walk in accountability.
*Celebrate Recovery meets Tuesday nights at the McVay Family Center in New Sharon. This is a safe place to find honesty, hope, and healing. The meal starts at 6 pm, and the lesson begins at 6:30 pm. Hope to see you there!
