For the director of music of David. When Doeg the Edomite had gone to Saul and told him: “David has gone to the house of Ahimelek.”
1 Why do you boast of evil, you mighty hero?
Why do you boast all day long,
you who are a disgrace in the eyes of God?
2 You who practice deceit,
your tongue plots destruction;
it is like a sharpened razor.
3 You love evil rather than good,
falsehood rather than speaking the truth.
4 You love every harmful word,
you deceitful tongue!
Doeg betrayed Ahimelech and David. Then, he killed the priests. Doeg boasted that he was a great warrior, but his actions were evil. What he had done was an offense to God. A person can mistake an accomplishment for goodness. Even though something may be done well or thoroughly does not mean it is right. What do you measure your accomplishments to in life? Do you work to please people or God? Measure all you do by the rule of God’s Word and work to please God not man.
