Leviticus 23:6 New International Version (NIV)
6 On the fifteenth day of that month the Lord’s Festival of Unleavened Bread begins; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast.
The Festival of Unleavened Bread reminded the Israelites of their escape from Egypt. They eat unleavened bread for 7 days just like they did during the Exodus. Bread without yeast is unique and this represents the uniqueness of Israel. Yeast is a symbol of sin, so the bread without yeast represents moral purity. Finally, the baking method is quick because the dough does not need to rise before baking, and this reminds the Israelites to obey quickly. Be unique as we are unique as being a part of God’s family. Be pure and keep away from sin and temptation. Obey quickly for God has your best interests at heart.
