Mindset is EVERYTHING. The end. We cannot change, shift or accomplish any task, goal or dream without it. We hear it a lot in our culture, but let’s unpack it.
Mindset is defined as a set of attitudes, beliefs, and perspectives that act as a mental filter, shaping your thoughts, feelings, behaviors about yourself and the world. How does this apply to our daily life? Lots. I would dare say mindset requires consistency and discipline. There are plenty of times I do not want to get to the gym, but my mindset can quickly shift in a matter of seconds to change that narrative completely. Mindset needs to be set FIRST thing in the morning. How do you start? Before your feet even hit the floor, say out loud 3 things you are grateful for in your life. I promise this will set your day up for amazing things. Create this habit and build on it the next day and the next day. It can be a daily practice of exercising that “mindset muscle’ if you will.
Mindset says “I am going to do that even though I don’t feel like it,” or “I am going to speak up for this thing at work, because it is something I believe deeply.” Mindset keeps us on track and reminds us who we are, what we are and why we believe and conduct ourselves the way we do.
There are two types of mindsets. The fixed mindset believes in intelligence, talent, and abilities are innate and unchangeable, focusing on improving existing ability. Growth mindset believes abilities can be developed through dedication, hard work, and learning from challenges; sees effort as the path to mastery. I think both can be right, but I adhere to more of a growth mindset for myself and as a Mother. Working hard for something always pay offs and builds so much character and confidence in things. Things that help you succeed in a growth mindset is resilience, motivation, achievement and neuroplasticity which supports the brain’s ability to change and grow. These are wonderful things to model and chat about with your children. I love seeing this in action when my kids do sports, music or even navigating relationships carefully.
I think it is pretty important moving forward to be open to understand everything we learned growing up; may have not been the whole story. It might have even been wrong and misleading in ways. Having the neuroplasticity to be open to looking at something a different way may add to your learning and help you become a better person. Teach your kids to always function from a grounded, spiritual foundation, but be open to things in the world which will allow for more kindness, more empathy, more acceptance of diversity of thinking which will create more growth and well-roundedness in how we see the world.
Choose a healthy mindset and see how it changes your day, your week, your month and even your whole lifestyle and perspective!
When we “know” better, we can “do” better!
Blessings my friends,
