The Quiet Moments…

by | May 24, 2026 | Podcast - Grit & Grace, Uncategorized, VITAL Health Devotions

How many can raise their hand and say, “life is so loud right now?” Can anyone relate? I have found myself searching for the quiet moments to reflect, refresh and renew from the heaviness life can bring. It has been a hard season for me personally since Jan 2025. I had some health issues which were hard to figure out. It took some patience to wade through the confusion and put the right puzzle pieces together. God helped me get to a better place. Later 2025, our family received another blow with the diagnosis of my Mother’s health. Life can really change quick.

Paraphrasing here but, 1 Corinthians 10:13 talks about God not giving us more than we can handle. I know I am not the only one who has wrestled this verse to the ground. He talks about no temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with temptation He will provide the way of escape, that you may “endure” it. The word temptation here speaks more to the “testing” or the “trial,” not necessarily something coming at you to tempt you. Think about it a bit differently based on the Greek lexicon.

This journey we have been on with my Mom’s brain cancer has been tempting. Tempting, meaning, I have felt the pull to want to be angry, sad, wading in the pity pool trying to understand why this is happening to two, Godly, faithful servants of Jesus. What a cruel joke God? Really? What could possibly make sense in ANY of this? This is our human nature. If we were in a perfect, sinless world; we would not even question this. It would not even be happening, let’s be really honest. Bad things happen with no explanation. It is one of my biggest struggles in this life when I see terrible things happen with innocent children, loss with pregnancy with beautiful, eager mothers waiting for their little ones, unexpected deaths, unfair diagnoses, and simple heartache all around which changes the course of lives. I get it. I have lived in. We ARE living it. What do we do? How do we find peace when there seems to be no logical way to find it or keep it?

But GOD. We have to seek Him, cry out to Him, help him give us peace that passes all human understanding, Spend time with believers who can speak life to it when you cannot even lift your hands up, opening the Bible first thing and choosing patience over the hurried life. THIS is how we endure. This is how we grow our faith, build trust in a God who knows exactly what he is doing even if we do not.

Is it unfair at times? Absolutely. Did he promise to never leave us? Yes. Did He send the Holy Spirit to comfort us? Yes. Thank you Lord for this comfort.

John 14:16- “And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you forever.”

You do not have to do life alone. One friend can nurse you back to health and love you through any trial in life. I truly believe this. I have amazing, covenant friends who lift me up when life gets too heavy. I am so grateful every day for all of them. It is not too late to find those type of friends in your life. Do not try to figure out all the things in this world. Cling to the Father with everything you have. He can carry anything we bring to Him. Trust His peace will come; in those quiet moments, at unexpected times I spoke of earlier. I feel it when the Holy Spirit comes. His mercies are new every day. Thank you Lord.

Find those quiet moments and reflect, refresh, renew. May God’s peace be with you today and always. God is good. All the time.

Blessings,
Emily
